This stunning and unique hall table is likely the work of a retired seaman to fill his idle hours. The table itself is ca.1860-1870, with the decoration probably done just after the turn of the century. The shells appear to have been harvested along the Atlantic coastline. The paint surface is in amazingly good condition with only very minor flaws, and its ropework trim is complete, terminating in side tassels. With its central mariner’s star and a portrait of a fore and aft rigged two-masted ship on the splash-back. Clearly a one-of-a-kind piece by a gifted artist. Measuring 33" tall at the bak splash, 27" tall to the table top, 36" wide at the back splash, 30-1/2" wide at the table top and 19-1/2" deep.
This table stands alone as a masterpiece of nautical folk art!
