This fabulous 19th C. New England firkin still retains it's original vibrant red painted surface and stencilling for "Powdered Sugar".  Made by G. Wilder & Son, So. Hingham, Mass.  Completely original without repairs.  There has been some shrinkage due to age which has allowed one of the lower bands to slip down.  But that is a common problem with most firkins that have not been "over-painted".  Great for anyone who collects stencilled pantries and firkins.  This one measures 12-1/2" tall (not counting the bail handle) with a base diameter of 12" and a lid diameter or 11-1/2".   Great for stacking or just displayed by itself!
