This early to mid 19th century profile of a seated woman potting flowers is a raised stuffed work reminiscent of the 17th century. Silk, chenille and leather on a silk and patterned two-dimensional ground, probably French or English in origin.  Probably the original shadowbox frame,  old label verso "J. Hedges, Successor to T. Knight, Looking Glass and Convex Mirror Manufacturer, Corner of Dean and Compton Street, Soho". a few small holes in woman's skirt, separation in lower part of silk ground, fading due to age. From a private collection, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  Measuring 9" w by 10" t by 2" d.
