Here I am offering what I consider to be a very unique and interesting Northeast Indian made potato stamped basket, probably Penobscot. It would be just another Indian basket except for the fact that it has a rarely seen "split" handle that is hand hewn out of a single piece of wood and then split and separated. See detail photos below. It measures approximately 10-1/2" in length by 8-1/2" with a height of 5" (9-1/2" to the top of the handle). Late 19th C. One very minor break on the bottom, otherwise in excellent condition with a very nice patina. .
