CThis is a wonderful mid-19th C. desk on base that came out of southern Kentucky.  Made entirely out of pine.  The case is finely dovetailed and has a lift lid and several little compartments inside.  It also has a small gallery on top.  There is a key hole, however, the lock is long gone.  The stretcher base is of pegged construction with a single dovetailed drawer and applied edge molding along the top.  The pulls may be early replacements, but still in keeping with the period of the desk.  This may have been used as a field desk (barn) or it also could have been a printers or engineers desk.  We will never know for sure.  It measures 48" wide by 21-1/2" deep by 46-1/2" tall at the back.
